Screen Painting with John Iampieri

Seventh graders from Brooklyn Park Middle School designed and painted over 200 screens in a recent residency program with Young Audiences of Maryland roster artist and screen painter John Iampieri. The artist worked with math teachers and the math department chair to develop a residency that spanned the month of April and included 28 workshops.

Students used the math concept of scale drawing to transfer initial sketches onto full-size painted screens, then hand painted the frames to prepare them for exhibition at Brooklyn Park Middle’s annual arts integration showcase, ArtsFest.

Did you know? The view through a painted screen from inside a house is the same as if it wasn’t painted. But from the sidewalk, you can’t peek in!
